"Puccini’s music with its jagged edges and bombastic sensibilities does not sound as if it’s easy to perform, but Daniel Brier and his orchestra handled it masterfully."

“I think part of a city's growth is the growth in the cultural arts sector and great cities have great culture, and culture is a way for us to explore what it means to be human, what it means to relate to one another, what it means to feel,” Opera Wilmington music director Daniel Brier said. “I'm just really excited that we're here and that we're moving forward and opera is alive and well in Wilmington.”

"We're so delighted to reach the ten year mark and I think it's great that a city like Wilmington has a full professional opera company in town..."

"Daniel Brier, the resident conductor of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, will take on two very different conducting assignments in the space of 10 days. He explained his approach to both in a conversation with Cara Lieurance."

"Brier says when the final concerts of the season were canceled in April, his first impulse was to corral with KSO staff to adjust and plan for what they soon realized would be a very different upcoming season. But he continued to spend a significant part of his time doing what is normal for him: studying scores. They can be masterpieces he's known for years, or less-performed compositions, or even brand-new works. With people in the global classical community again questioning the slow progress of diversity in their ranks, Brier returned to a personal project he started four years ago: to identify and perform Black American music on KSO programs."
